Requirements
New Port Performance Indicators (PPI) are developed on the basis of business requirements. Each requirement can be measured through one or more PPI which differ from port to port due to different objectives and requirements.
Processes
The APIS Framework contains a fixed set of pre-definied processes which have the goal to support choosing, integrating and calculating PPIs.
Resources
The third component of the framework are resources, which can be used for each PPI.
Why use the Conceptual Framework?
During the development and research process of Port Performance Indicators it absolutly becomes clear that indicators need to be developed which are directly related to Port Authorities business requirements. The goal for the construction of the Conceptual Framework was to link Outputs (=Port Performance) with Inputs (=Business Requirements).
On the one hand this was achieve using well known management techniques such as the P-D-C-A concept on the other hand the conceptual framework was enriched by approaches known in the academic field.
The ultimative goal is to support Port Authorities with an conceptual framework which helps them to improve their strategic decisions by implementing Port Performance Indicators (PPI).
