GTDS

About Geographic Transport Data with Superstar (GTDS)

GTDS is an application which offers delivery and analysis of geo-referenced transport-related flow data over the web based on STR SuperVIEW technology. Its rich set of features allows you to:

  • Browse combined transport data from several sources (e.g. APV LogIS port terminal turnover, Cross-alpine freight transport survey and EUROSTAT maritime goods transport)
  • View data interactively and in real time
  • Query a transport data by a combination of waypoints
  • Refine your search along several classifications and select different measures (depends on data)
  • Save and load your queries using spatial bookmarks
  • Analyze transport flow composition at locations and along road sections by means of treemaps

Data

GTDS includes following data sets:

  • Cross-alpine freight transport survey 2004 (CAFT)

CAFT was designed to complement available statistical sources on road transport in the alpine region with data on commodities carried by vehicles, their weight as well as origin and destinations of their trips. CAFT collects data on a single trip of a truck with admissible weight greater than 7.5 tons. Measures refer basically to vehicle and load weights in kilograms and tons, respectively. Variables with geographic reference use the Nomenclature des Unites Territoires Statistiques (NUTS) coding. Primary data sources are interviews (data collection for road traffic) and databases of intermodal as well as rail operators (unaccompanied and accompanied combined transport) for rail transport data collection. Automatic and manual traffic counts as well as toll statistics are used to inflate results to annual estimates. Read more.

  • Venice Port Authority terminal turnover 2006

The Venice Port Authority operates a port community system (PCS) to the key actors in its range. The system also manages compulsory statistical reports by terminal operators in the port area. The source contains microdata on a vessel call basis. For each call a record contains information on the vessel, call date, moorage, type and amount of cargo, port of destination/origin etc. Data are available for 2006 and the first semester of 2007. Visit this site soon to learn more.

  • Eurostat maritime goods transport

This source contains maritime transport data for Italian ports since 2003. Data refer to gross weight of goods (in tonnes). Data for transport of goods in containers are also expressed in volume terms (TEUs = 20 ft equivalent unit). Data contain quarterly figures. Classifications used are in accordance with Directive 2009/42/EC and Commission Decision 2008/861/EC and comprise the port of loading and unloading, type of cargo, vessel flag, etc. Read more.
